Treatment Risks & Considerations
General Considerations
At Blue Tooth Dental, all procedures are carried out by Ahpra-registered dental practitioners. While we use modern technology and careful planning to improve safety and results, every dental treatment involves some risks. These risks vary depending on your oral health, medical history, and individual treatment plan.
Orthodontic (Aligners & Braces)
- Aligners may show wear in people who grind or clench, though this rarely affects their function.
- Your bite may require adjustment at the end of treatment.
- Some cases need additional procedures, such as tooth extractions or surgery, which involve risks like discomfort, swelling, or healing delays.
Dental Implants (Including Full-Arch Solutions)
- Implants are planned with imaging, but risks may include implant instability, sinus involvement, or bone fracture.
- Bone grafts or sinus lifts may be needed, each with their own risks.
- Smoking, gum health, and oral hygiene affect healing and long-term success.
- Ongoing maintenance is essential and may involve further costs.

Veneers & Cosmetic Dentistry
- Veneer treatment usually requires removal of natural enamel, which is permanent and irreversible.
- Teeth may become more sensitive to hot or cold after treatment.
- Veneers can chip, crack, or detach, especially in patients who grind or clench.
- Future repairs or replacements may be needed and involve additional costs.
- Alternatives such as whitening or orthodontics may be more suitable in some cases.
Other Surgical Procedures
- Surgery near nerves (such as wisdom tooth removal) carries a risk of temporary or permanent numbness or altered sensation.
- Previously treated or weakened teeth may require additional work such as root canal therapy or restorations.
Recovery & Ongoing Care
- Some treatments may involve downtime, discomfort, or temporary changes in diet or routine.
- Regular follow-ups and hygiene appointments are important to maintain results.
- Additional or unplanned procedures may be required over time.
Important Note
Outcomes vary for every patient. While our goal is always safety and quality care, the final result depends on many factors, including your health, oral hygiene, and biological response to treatment. A personal consultation with one of our dentists is the only way to determine whether a procedure is suitable for you and to understand the specific risks involved.
