What’s Happy Gas sedation?
Happy Gas involves breathing in a blend of two gases through a mask which sits over your nose. This blend has a sweet smell and raises the pain threshold while giving you a feeling of relaxation.
How safe is it?
Happy Gas sedation is considered a very safe option when administered by a trained dentist. The level of gas can be adjusted by dentist to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. You will remain fully conscious throughout the procedure and can respond to questions or instructions.
For many patients, this is an ideal solution because it works quickly, taking only 3–5 minutes to take effect. It is also rapidly eliminated from the body once the gas is turned off, typically within 5 minutes, most patients are able to drive themselves home, though dentist will confirm you’re fit to do so before you leave.
